Ric Hassani, born Ikechukwu Eric Ahiauzu on January 6, 1989, in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, is a renowned Pop-African singer, songwriter, and musician. He burst onto the music scene in 2012 with his debut single “Dance Dance Baby Dance,” followed by the hit “Double Double.” Known for his smooth vocals and gentlemanly style, Ric Hassani gained international recognition in September 2015 when he became the first Nigerian artist to headline the Lake of Stars Festival in Malawi. This milestone was followed by the release of his album compilation African Tour Select Singles 2015 and an acoustic EP featuring popular tracks like “Joy,” “Stay,” and “Depression.”

In December 2015, Ric released “Gentleman,” the lead single from his debut album The African Gentleman, which was officially launched in July 2017. The album’s standout track, “Only You,” has amassed over 42 million streams across all platforms, solidifying Ric Hassani as a significant figure in the African music landscape. His unique sound is influenced by global artists like Sam Smith, Craig David, and the iconic band Boyz II Men.
Ric Hassani’s educational background is as impressive as his musical career; he holds a master’s degree in energy economics from the University of Surrey, UK, after graduating from Covenant University in Nigeria. In April 2024, he was announced as a judge for the ninth season of Nigerian Idol, alongside Omawumi and 9ice. His contributions to music have earned him numerous accolades, including nominations at the 2016 All Africa Music Awards and The Headies, where he was recognized in categories such as Best Artiste in African R&B and Soul, and Best Alternative Song.
