Mabantu is a popular Bongo Flava music duo from Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, known for their energetic beats and unique style that has captured the hearts of music lovers across East Africa. The group consists of two talented artists: Twarha Kanengo, also known as Twarha Mabantu (born July 9, 1997), and Mwarami Kajonje, known as Muuh Mabantu (born January 21, 1999). Since their inception, Mabantu has become a household name in the Bongo Flava genre, celebrated for their relatable lyrics, captivating performances, and a growing catalog of hit songs.

Mabantu first made waves in the Tanzanian music scene with their breakthrough singles “Sundi” and “Bodaboda” in 2018, followed by the widely acclaimed track “As We Are” in 2019, featuring fellow artist Whozu. Their collaboration with Young Lunya on the track “Nawakera” further solidified their place in the Bongo Flava landscape. The duo has also worked with R The DJ on “Shobo” in 2021, showcasing their versatility and ability to collaborate with other big names in the industry.
Before forming Mabantu, Twarha and Mwarami were part of the “Mkubwa na Wanawe” program, an initiative led by music veteran Said Fella. Here, they honed their musical skills, gained performance experience, and developed their unique sound. However, in 2013, they decided to branch out independently, officially establishing Mabantu as a distinct musical identity.
The group’s time at the Fella Institute allowed them to explore various musical disciplines, including vocal training, sound engineering, and live performance techniques. This foundation has greatly contributed to their success, making them one of the most promising acts in Tanzanian music today.
“Tumekukataa,” released on September 11, 2024, is Mabantu’s latest single, produced by renowned Bongo Flava producer S2kizzy. The song blends traditional Bongo Flava rhythms with modern Afrobeat influences, creating a vibrant and catchy track that has quickly become a fan favorite. “Tumekukataa” showcases Mabantu’s unique lyrical style and energetic delivery, making it a must-listen for fans of contemporary Tanzanian music.
