Rema, the Nigerian singer, emerged victorious at the 2023 MTV Europe Music Awards (EMA), despite the event’s cancellation. The winners were still announced on Sunday, November 5. Rema, along with Tanzanian singer Diamond Platnumz, stood out among the winners, securing the titles of “Best Afrobeats” and “Best African Act,” respectively.
In the category of Best Afrobeats, Rema outshone other nominees, including Asake, Aya Nakamura, Ayra Starr, Burna Boy, and Davido. Notably, this marked the first time that the Best Afrobeats category was introduced at the MTV EMAs.
Diamond Platnumz, the celebrated Tanzanian singer known for hits like “Number One,” “Kanyaga,” and “Unachezaje,” clinched the award for Best African Act at the 2023 MTV Europe Music Awards. He emerged victorious against fellow nominees, such as Asake, Burna Boy, Libianca, and Tyler ICU.
