Fireboy, Davido, Burna Boy, Adekunle Gold & Yemi Alade’s Get Headies “Best Pop Album” Nomination – Who Deserves To Win?

The Nigeria’s most recognized music awards, The Headies is out with 2020 Nominees list.

As you might have already know, due to irregularities of the awards organizers in past years, the year in review of the award has not been regular.

This year, the nominees are picked based on the music works released between July 2019 and September 2020 this year.

The year 2019 till this rugged 2020 are years of many albums but only 5 Nigerian artiste made it to “Best Pop Album” of the year category at the Headies.

Below Are Headies Best Pop Album Nominees:

1. Fireboy – Apollo

Being his second studio album under YBNL, Fireboy did an extra-ordinarily well on “Apollo“.

The 17-track-album contains loads of amazing tracks, few features with Fireboy delivering classic and international Pop-Sound.

2. Burna Boy – African Giant

Burna Boy came through with “African Giant” album in 2019 to address most of the socio-political wrongs in Nigeria and Africa as a whole.

The album offers a blend of Afro-beat and Afro-Pop on the album as the body of work also went ahead to grab “Grammy Nomination for Best World Music category last year.

This particular album had hit songs like “Dangote“, “Anybody“, “Killin Dem” among others.

3. Davido – A Good Time

After several years of album drought, Davido finally released “A Good Time” body of work in 2019.

The album features guest appearances from Chris BrownSummer WalkerGunnaA Boogie wit da HoodieDremoPeruzzi, PopcaanZlatanYondaWurld and Naira Marley.

The album is predominantly Afro-beats but could also be classified under Afro-Pop.

Some big songs on the album include; “Fall“, “Assurance“, “One Milli“, “Sweet In The Middle” to mention a few.

4. Yemi Alade – Woman Of Steel

The “Mama Africa” herself described this album as a buffet with varieties of meals and drinks.

The album got lots of streams across Africa and the world at large as Yemi Alade went as far as securing collaborations with US rapper, Rick Ross, Angelique KidjoDuncan Mighty and Funke Akindele on the album.

A “Woman Of Steel” is Yemi Alade‘s 4th studio album which got released August 30th, 2019.

5. Adekunle Gold – Afro Pop Vol 1

Released in August 2020, Afro Pop Vol 1 is no doubt one of the biggest albums released this year.

The 10 tracks album reflected an improved version of the Adekunle Gold of “Örente“, “Pick Up” among most of his early hits.

Headies did well by rating this obviously under-rated album with a “Best Pop Album” nomination.
